The Towne Singers are a fun loving group of singers and actors who like to spend time together and perform! The group was formed in 2000 as the brain-child of Tony DeRosa and has taken on several incarnations since that time.  Tony continued to perform with the group, but Lois Jarman took over as leader/coordinator. During her leadership, The SINGERS have performed for civic organizations, nursing homes, assisted Living groups, The Frederick Keys, Frederick First Night celebrations, and even took a trip to Europe and performed in Austria & Germany in 2002. Also in 2002 The SINGERS produced a CD of Christmas Music which was a “‘best seller” in the community.

In Fall of 2004, there were graduations, retirements, job changes and the faces of the singers began to change.  Lois stepped down as leader/coordinator and Louise VanGilder-Martin, one of the original members, took over as leader of the group. Carol Cavaness Thomas and Bob Causer, also original members, have stayed and the group has grown through the additions of Jonny & Jana Kigin, Terri Magers, Perry Kirkham, Loella Springmann, Steve Ross and Laurie & Wes Parker.

From fall of 2004 through present, the group has continued its mission of performing for civic organizations, nursing homes, assisted living groups, etc, but has also been seen performing for Frederick First Saturday Walks in Everedy Square,  as an opening group for Way Off Broadway dinner theatre’s production of Oklahoma! ,  entertaining for Anniversary Parties, Holiday events, the Frederick Builder’s Association and can be seen in the lobby performing during the Opening Night of FTP’s productions.

The SINGERS love to perform and will do so for a minimum tax deductible donation to the Fredericktowne Players of $150 for 20-30 minutes up to $300 for an hour. A portion of their proceeds goes towards the scholarship fund which awards one Senior at each High School in Frederick County a scholarship which can be used towards their college tuition, books, etc.

“This is a great group of people to sing with.  Getting together and singing in the community is a lot of fun – and what we enjoy doing actually benefits a very worthy cause. “ Bob Causer.

“I love singing with this group because I can have the fun of performing without the added stress of committing to the 8 to 10 weeks of rehearsing for a show!” Carol Cavaness Thomas.

“No doubt about it, singing with this group is FUN!  However, there's more to it than that.  It is a most pleasurable way to give back to the arts community.  I'm proud of the fundraising we do for FTP, especially our contributions toward the scholarship programs.” Laurie Parker.

"The beauty of this group is that we’re all divas, we all LOVE to sing and perform, but we all GET ALONG and support each other. It’s a joy for me to lead, coordinate and sing with this group.” Louise VanGilder-Martin.

“I love to sing, and being a part of the Singers is a chance to help my community while doing something I love.”  Jana Kigin

“I just love to be with Jana.”  Jonny Kigin
